  • Provide full-time 1:1 support onsite and on group community outings at the program facility.
  • Modify instructional and leisure activities for increased access to and participation in daily schedule.
  • Provide safety navigating environments onsite and during community outings.
  • Assure basic needs are met regarding toileting, approved meals/snacks/beverages, and personal hygiene.
  • Facilitate socialization through supported communication with peers and staff.
  • Provide individualized support that fosters growth of skills and increased independence using protocols and strategies tailored to suit each person. 
  • Create and use an individualized daily tactile schedule to promote structure.
  • Utilize frequent communication with families to address concerns, etc.

HOME SETTING

ADULT DAY PROGRAM SETTING

  • Provide full-time 1:1 support onsite in the home setting and on community outings.
  • Provide own transportation to and from home site.
  • Create individualized curriculum including self-help skills, daily living skills, leisure activities, and neighborhood outings.
  • Support orientation and mobility skills for safety in the home environment as well as in neighborhood outings.
  • Assure basic needs are met regarding toileting, approved meals/snacks/beverages, and personal hygiene.
  • Provide job/volunteer support, if applicable, including onsite modification and teaching of job skills, supported communication, and safety navigating the job site.
  • Provide Braille instruction and support, if applicable.
  • Create and use an individualized daily tactile schedule to promote structure.
  • Create experience books to commemorate and reinforce new experiences.
  • Facilitate communication using individualized protocols incorporating the best multi-modal choices for each client.
  • Provide individualized support that fosters growth of skills and increased independence using protocols and strategies tailored to suit each person.
  • Utilize frequent communication with families to address concerns, etc.

SCHOOL SETTING

SCHOOL SETTING

  • Provide full-time 1:1 support during school hours.
  • Use tactile sign language, braille, assistive technology, and/or other communication methods based on the student's needs.
  • Act as a bridge between the student and teachers, peers, and other staff. 
  • Assist the student in navigating the school environment, including classrooms, hallways, and common areas.
  • Provide descriptions of visual and/ or auditory elements in the environment. 
  • Reinforce classroom instruction in an accessible way.
  • Collaborate with teachers to adapt instructional materials and lesson plans to meet the unique needs of the DB student. 
  • Encourage peer interaction and inclusion.
  • Implement behavioral strategies as outlined in the student's IEP, collaborating with the school's behavior support team.
  • Support the student in understanding social cues and engagement strategies.
  • Follow the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
  • Attend IEP meetings and communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and other relevant professionals.
  • Advocate for the student's needs within the school environment.
