Our goal is for all deafblind individuals with additional disabilities to be contributing members of society and to live productive lives, well as being actively engaged in whatever they do and not just be passive participants.
As deafblind interveners, we are certified trained professionals who specialize in working one-on-one with deafblind individuals. These individuals – our clients - suffer a specific type of anxiety/fear that inhibits learning and interacting with others. Our Interveners understand these stressors and know how to recognize and manage them, opening the door for skill-building, engagement, and growth, resulting in greater happiness. Interveners use specific techniques to build an unshakeable bond of trust with their deafblind clients. This reliable connection supports social emotional growth through facilitation of meaningful communication – both receptive and expressive – using various modalities (i.e., coactive/tactile signing, touch cues, assistive technology); and relaxed exploration of new environments, people, and situations. Interveners understand the delicate balance needed to provide support without inhibiting independence. Our motto is “Do with, not for.”
Our deafblind interveners are certified as qualified to provide individualized top-notch care and support for our clients and families. We know how to develop a trusting relationship that creates security in our clients, allowing for optimum learning and growth in independent living skills, jobs skills, and interpersonal skills. We work with families, employers, and program staff members to create structure and continuity for our clients, which promotes confidence and independence in them. We never forget that deafblind individuals with additional disabilities are also valuable family members, community members, and neighbors, so we work to maximize their opportunities for the fulfillment and happiness they deserve.
